What do funders mean by Systems Change? This is a question that is asked regularly of Vedran Drakulic OAM, CEO of Hansen Little Foundation. Philanthropy based on systems change can have a transformational effect on helping to solve complex social issues. But to make changes that will create long-lasting solutions, it’s critical that both funders and charities are on the same page. What one defines as systems change may differ to others.
In this candid discussion, Vedran and Strategic Grants’ Director, Jo Garner, will discuss the significance of defining what systems change means for both the funder and fund-seeker. They will explore the role of organisational leadership in defining what systems change means for mission delivery and the importance of Fundraising leads being included in Executive Leadership teams, to ensure program planning to achieve change, is matched with the right source of funding.
Topics covered include:
- A Family Foundation’s funding approach including how they define systems change
- Importance of aligning your mission with the funder’s (and understanding when pitching for systems change isn’t the best approach)
- Common mistakes Vedran sees when assessing applications
- The necessity of CEO and Fundraising Executive collaboration for systems change
- Advice for ‘getting a seat at the leadership table’
