Fight imposter syndrome: you CAN apply for your boss’ job!

Thursday 23 Feb 2023 - 8:00 am to 9:00 am

The fundraising sector overwhelmingly employs women but men still dominate the senior roles. This panel will encourage female fundraisers to overcome their fear of “not being quite ready” to step up into fundraising leadership positions, whether as in-house fundraisers or as external consultants. You CAN be the next Fundraising Director at your charity… or even the CEO (because we need more CEOs that understand fundraising)! Hear from the following panelists:

  • Sue Parkes (St Vincent’s Hospital Foundation) has years of experience as a Fundraising Director within the health sector and a ton of practical wisdom about managing your personal life and family as a senior leader.
  • Karen McComiskey (Reventure) will inspire you as a person living with a mental illness who moved up the ranks to fundraising leadership at Melbourne City Mission and Brotherhood of St Laurence and is now a charity CEO.
  • Steffi Chang (Plan International Australia) is an experienced philanthropy manager and former Young Fundraiser of the Year who is passionate about making a difference at senior leadership level in the for-purpose sector.
  • Michelle Varcoe (Gembridge) brings her experience of what employers really expect from job candidates and what steps to take for the role you want in 5 years

June Steward (June’s Fundraising Letter) with experience of taking the plunge into the world of fundraising consulting when she was pregnant with her first child… and who really, really wants women to apply for their boss’ job!
