Funders’ perspective: what happens in Trustee meetings?

Thursday 20 Feb 2025 - 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm

  • General Fundraiser (all fundraisers)
  • Small Organisations

Perpetual manages over 1000 charitable trusts and foundations and has been managing philanthropic vehicles for 135 years, and as such has a unique perspective on how the decision-makers of charitable trusts and foundations make their funding decisions.

Some foundations are run by founding families with clear ideas of what they want their philanthropy to support, and see their PAF as an extension of their personal giving; some involve professional co-trustees and are more strategic, and engage Perpetual’s philanthropic expertise to assist with funding decisions; some involve the third generation of the Founder’s family, with their immensely different philanthropic inclination to their great-grandparents; and some entrust a trustee company like Perpetual to deliver on the charitable intentions of the Founder.

This discretionary environment is complex and often opaque to fundraisers. This session aims to help fundraisers to understand the decision-making landscape of trusts and foundations, and how fundraisers can best deliver what these decision-makers are seeking in a funding application.
