Fundraising for advocacy – How Anglicare Victoria built a coalition and raised money to lobby government for The Home Stretch policy
Thursday 20 Feb 2025 - 8:30 am to 9:30 am
- Intermediate (2-7 years experience)
Anglicare Victoria’s The Home Stretch policy extends support for vulnerable young people in state care. More than 5000 youth across Australia are now benefiting from support of their state or territory up until 21 years of age, but this wasn’t always the case. How did an idea to seek better outcomes for youth in need translate to Australia-wide policy change? And how were funds raised for this impactful advocacy campaign?
Paul McDonald, CEO of Anglicare Victoria, is joined by Vedran Drakulic OAM, CEO of Hansen Little Foundation and Jo Garner, Director of Strategic Grants, to explore how philanthropic fundraising powered a robust advocacy campaign over less than five years across six states and two territories to introduce The Home Stretch policy.
Topics include:
- How the Anglicare Victoria team created their coalition of 200+ organisations
- Gathering evidence to support outcomes and crafting a case for support to attract philanthropists to advocacy projects
- The state-by-state lobbying process and approach to philanthropic partners
- The critical role of collaboration between CEOs and fundraising professionals for positive change
- How long-term partnerships built on good communication and trust can result in ongoing, multi-year funding
- Building the outcomes framework to prove systems change
- Continuing to influence policy beyond initial successes
