Long Distance Fundraising from Australia: MSF shows how they fundraise in geographically distant and culturally different communities
Friday 21 Feb 2025 - 2:20 pm to 3:20 pm
- General Fundraiser (all fundraisers)
Although Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is a global organisation, that doesn’t mean it fundraises in every country…. yet. Using Australia as a base we have begun to fundraise around our region.
In this presentation the MSF team will talk about how they have launched and managed programs in multiple of different countries.
The panel will be chaired by our head of fundraising – Tom Duggan. He will talk about the strategic reasons for choosing to fundraise remotely and some of the challenges it has brought about including legal and reporting requirements.
Magda Kubicka is the fundraising manager for MSF APAC which looks after Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. MSF tests fundraising strategies in all of these countries. Magda will talk about why they have entered the markets in this way, how they fundraise across countries, languages, and cultures.
Managing relationships with donors is something that works best when you can easily spend time with them. Gabi Atchison, MSF’s Gifts in Wills Specialist will talk about how she manages to build and maintain relationships with our bequest donors who are at least 4000kms away
While it might seem easy to just send the same appeal to New Zealand donors as Australian ones, there significant creative and logistical challenges in cross Tasman fundraising. Holly Sara will speak to how MSF overcame this issues.
