The nonprofit sector attracts smart people who want to change the world – which also means we attract idealists and perfectionists with a healthy appetite for data-driven decision making. We want to deliver the best for our beneficiaries. We want to deliver the best for our donors. And we have more tools at our fingertips than ever before to track and measure our progress. We all aim for best practice. But – if we’re honest – we are all, in our own environments, battling our way there. (It’s not always easy hearing about amazing organisations doing amazing things, knowing we have a long road to go towards an elusive ‘best in class’ prize.) 

Everyone is in the same boat.

This session will provide a framework for our new favourite vocabulary: Better Practice. Loaded with practical industry examples of the wins to be gained by not letting perfection stand in the way of progress, attendees will leave feeling capable and inspired by concepts like kaizen, the beauty to be found in ‘building the plane while you’re flying it’ and adding smaller rungs to tall strategic ladders.

This is not about aiming for mediocrity. It’s about reframing our goals so they are achievable and empowering our teams to make better practice possible.
