Leading through fire. A story of organisational resilience from the war zone

Friday 1 Mar 2024 - 12:10 pm to 1:10 pm

Leadership Stress Test in Crisis

On February 24th, 2024, we commemorate 24 months since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, one of the most brutal military aggressions since World War II. The needs on the ground are still vast, ranging from immediate military and emergency humanitarian assistance to long-term rebuilding efforts. Ukrainian civil society organisations are at the forefront of providing support, facing the most challenging tasks.

This session will present a compelling case study on the Tabletochki Foundation, one of Ukraine’s largest and most prominent charitable organizations dedicated to helping children with cancer for over 12 years.

In the chaos of war, the Tabletochki Foundation has pivoted and adjusted to find new resilience. They have maintained full operations and even expanded their efforts to address new needs arising from war casualties. They managed to overcome a 50% decrease in domestic income by expanding to global fundraising markets to support an increased budget.

During this session, you’ll gain insights on:

  1. Leadership in an era of radical uncertainty and poli crisis: exploring the dangers of the “it will never happen to me” mindset.
  2. The pillars of organizational resilience 2.0.: adopting agile operations, reinventing fundraising strategy, and enhancing communication efforts while ensuring essential talents, technologies, and processes are in place to survive and thrive.
  3. Power of partnerships: discovering how strategic collaborations and alliances have played a crucial role in Tabletochki’s ability to navigate the challenges of war and maximize their impact.
