Gone are the glory days of mail acquisition where returns were above 1:1 and thousands on new cash donors rolled in for each campaign. Whilst it’s not quite dead, it’s on life support.
So, what’s replenishing our appeal programs? Or should I say, are we replenishing them?
The answer is for most Aussie charities, sadly not. “Our appeals are declining…. Our volumes are dropping”, are phrases we hear often.
If you managed to recruit 3k new mail cash donors a few years ago, you’d be lucky to bring in 300 from a digital acquisition campaign right now.
And whilst we’re comparing apples and oranges, the reality is in a post COVID world, new methods simply don’t cut it.
